Montreal Canadiens fans weren’t too sure what they would get from Max Domi when he was acquired for Alex Galchenyuk in June. Considering Domi had only nine goals and 36 assists last season, compared to 19 goals and 32 assists for Galchenyuk, it was a fair assessment.

Now six games into the season, Domi showed fans his scoring prowess as he netted his first goal of the year.

In the first period, Domi took the chip pass from Artturi Lehkonen and broke out 2-on-1. Despite having the speedy Vladimir Tarasenko on his back near the net, he slid the backhander past Jake Allen to give Montreal a 1-0 lead.

Entering Wednesday, Domi, the 12th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, had four assists.

Last season, Domi scored in his first game with the Coyotes, but was then goalless for 21 games. Montreal fans are hoping this year will be a little different.
